In this guide, we will provide you with the important information you will need to apply for your Germany Student Visa from Hyderabad. We will ensure you are also well prepared to help with a successful application.

Understanding German Student Visas for Indian Citizens

When studying for a period longer than 90 days, you will be needing a National Visa (D-Visa) for study. This visa is normally issued for a limited amount of time and you will need to convert it to a residence permit for study purposes upon arrival in Germany.

Overview of requirements:

  1. Valid Passport: It must be issued in the last 10 years, have at least two blank pages, and at least three months left on it after the date of your visa appointment.
  2. Admission letter: This will include you being accepted unconditionally to a recognized German university course or preparatory course.
  3. Proof of financial means: Here you usually need to show that you have a blocked account.
  4. Health insurance: You will need health insurance that covers you adequately.
  5. APS certificate: This is compulsory for Indian students.
  6. Language skills: Proof of German or English language skills based on your course of study.

Step 1. Obtain APS Certificate (Akademische Prüfstelle) – First and foremost am I’m gonna say it clearly

APS certificate is a buying factor for all Indian students apply for student visa to Germany. It just authenticates your academic documents and verifies you’re able for German universities.

Online Registration: Register yourself on APS India website (www.aps-india.de)

Fee Payment: Pay the non-refundable APS processing fee (currently INR 18,000).

Submit Documents: Courier (to APS India) all of your academic documents copies (photocopies, A4 size) – Class X, XII mark sheets and certificates, Bachelor’s / Master’s mark sheets and degrees, language certificates etc.

Verification and Interview: APS will verify your documents, interview may be required.

Step 3. Financial Proof (Blocked Account)

Step 4: Obtain Health Insurance

Travel Health Insurance – For visas you will require Health Insurance for travel that is valid from your arrival date from the date on the travel health insurance until you are enrolled at your respective university (about 3 months after you arrive) which pays a minimum of €30,000.
German Health Insurance – When you arrive you will require statutory public health insurance (if you are under 30 years of age) or private health insurance. There are many providers of health insurance specifically for students (e.g. Techniker Krankenkasse (TK) or Feather Insurance).
Confirmation Confirmation – Obtain a confirmation from a provider of German health insurance.

Step 5: Collect All Necessary Documents

Make sure that you collect and collate all the necessary documents carefully i.e. include original copies and 2 sets of A4 photocopies for each document.   • Your three current biometric passport size photographs
  • Your Letter of Admission from your German university (1 original + 2 photocopies)
  • Your Proof of financial means (ex. Blocked Account confirmation – 1 original + 2 photocopies)
  • Your Proof of Health Insurance (i.e. travel insurance – and documentation from your
  • German insurance plan – 1 original + 2 photocopies)
  • Your CV
  • Your Letter of Purpose/Motivation Statement

Your Proof of Language Proficiency (for English: IELTS or TOEFL; for German language: Goethe or TestDaF or DSH) (1 original + 2 photocopies)

Step 6: Book Your Visa Appointment

If you are a student in Hyderabad, your application will be processed through the new German Consulate General in Chennai. You will normally book your appointment with VFS Global.

Step 7: Attend Your Visa Interview at VFS Global, Hyderabad


You should arrive at least 15 minutes before your appointment.
Submit your documents to the agent and ensure they are complete, arranged, and unstapled.
Your biometrics will be recorded and you will be taking fingerprints as well as photographs.
You will pay the visa fee (currently €75.00 Euros – paid in INR – at VFS Global).

Step 8: Wait While Your Visa is Processed

Step 9: Collect Your Passport and Visa

Once the visa process is completed, you will be contacted to collect your your passport at VFS Global. Your Visa will be stamped directly into your passport.
